How to Put an Apple Watch on Silent

The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 11 in iOS 13.4. I am using an Apple Watch Series 2 with watchOS version 6.2.1. Note that putting the Apple Watch into silent mode won’t stop sounds from alarms or timers if the watch is being charged.

Step 1: Return to the Apple Watch Home screen by pressing the digital crown button on the side of the watch.

Step 2: Swipe up from the bottom of the watch face to open the Control Center.

Step 3: Scroll down and tap the bell icon.

While you have the Control Center open on the Apple Watch, there are a few other items to pay attention to. One is the moon icon. If you tap that icon it will put the watch into Do Not Disturb mode, which will stop all sounds, as well as prevent the vibrate part of an alert or notification. There is also an icon that looks like two masks, which will enable Theater Mode. This turns off sounds, haptic alerts, and the Apple Watch display won’t light up either.  The next section discusses another way that you can perform this action on the watch.
